Training Ethics
Ingenious Dogs follows a Least Inhibitive, Functionally Effective (LIFE) approach to support you and your dog. This means that all training, behaviour and enrichment interventions Marie recommends are force-free and reward-based and will take your dog's unique personality and motivation into account, increase agency, serve to improve your dog's welfare, and eliminate fear and frustration.
New research which informs best animal training practices is being published every day. Marie keeps up-to-date with most-recent scientific advancements and is an active member of the animal trainers and behaviourist communities to best serve you and your dog.
Modern ethical force-free dog training is based on scientific fields such as:
- the natural behaviours and needs of dogs in the context of their environment (canine ethology)
- the laws governing how behaviours are initiated and maintained (behaviour analysis)
- the physical, behavioural and psychological wellbeing of dogs (canine welfare)
- canine emotions and communication (psychology and affective neuroscience)
Furthermore, Ingenious Dogs adheres to strict codes of conduct which are set by the professional dog training and behaviour organisations which she is a member of (see below).
